The colony was doing very well several years ago before Prairie Dog Pals started "caring"for them. They already had an above average population density (according to all nature publications, prairie dogs naturally exist in average population densities of 2 to 18 animals per acre). The feeding of these animals has resulted in an extreme overpopulation of the area - there are well over 100 in less than an acre of land. The animals no longer have any fear of people and endanger bikers and others by standing on the paved bike path and making you go around them!
